The Tether System and Risers
The tether system comprises multiple independent tether groups attached to four outriggers attached to the BEC. The locations of the tethers are precisely calculated to ensure that they do not come into contact with the buoy and provide the correct righting of movement to resist out of balance forces. The stress is distributed throughout the buoy structure due to the outriggers being integrally tied-in to cross bulkheads within the buoy.
At water depths of 100 metres and beyond the tethers may be attached directly to the gravity storage base. Waters shallower than 100 metres will require the tethers to be anchored using a purpose designed system.
