The renewable energy industry is growing at a rapid pace. The fastest expansion is taking place offshore, with offshore wind, wave and tidal power projects being the fastest expanding segments. There are a number of barriers to the success of such projects however, with one of the biggest problems being the transmission of the electricity generated to the national grid. In response to this need, a variant of the buoy has been developed that can act as a substation for the wind/wave/tidal facility, enabling a safe and efficient connection to the national electricity grid network.
