This is an innovative application of the buoy that enables exploitation of commercially stranded gas fields by converting the gas to electrical power then transporting this rather than the gas. This has been branded Gas2Wire technology, and offers a major breakthrough in the exploitation of stranded gas assets. In the case of such assets, the cost of long distance export and intra-field gas gathering pipe networks render exploitation of the small gas pools uneconomical, especially in wet gas applications. In such circumstances, laying an export electrical power cable coupled with conversion of the gas to a higher value export product (electrical power) can transform the field exploitation economics.

Criteria for field identification:

• Stranded offshore gas fields. Fields which are remotely located with gas production adequate for power generation and transportation to the shore/nearest platform.
